Dreaming of CB Radios

So, most of you know I have weird dreams. But, then there are those times when I have a REALLY weird one. And, Saturday morning was one of those times. I don't know whether to attribute this to the cold or the cold medicine. Either way, it's a doozie.

Part of the fun is trying to figure out what prompted particular points of the dream. I think it all started with Michael's Pappy's 9/6/07 post on Roger and Willco. It reminded me of the days back in high school when all of my cooky friends had CBs in their cars. Mind you, this was not normal. And, we knew it. But, we didn't care, and we had fun communicating with each other around town. Driving around the loop on the weekends, running errands, bored at night, running out for fast food during the lunch hour - no matter the reason or the time of day, we had a great time on the CB with our friends. This was long before the days when everyone had cell phones, mind you.

Of course, our family had CB radios long before that. In fact, Dad and Mom belonged to a CB club when I was very young. We'd go to the club meetings, have parties, and enjoy visiting with the other CB folks. The members had funny blue vests with long white fringe. Maybe someday, when I go home, I can have Dad pose for a picture in his old CB club vest. Of course, the picture won't look authentic for the period without his afro or moustache, but I don't think we'll ever see those again. (I'm HOPING we'll never see those again.)

Dad's handle? Piano Man. Mom's handle? Ten Pin. (She's a bowler, of course.) Aaron's handle? Little Big Shot. My name? Well, my uncle (whose heritage is rumored to be American Indian) named me Little Papoose. (You can giggle for a few moments, but then you must stop.)

When I got into high school, a new handle was given to me: Grape Ape (I loved purple.) Susan's name was Queenie. (Long story.) Anne's name was Plain Jane. (She said she had a hard time coming up with something because she didn't have anything identifiable and was more of a plain jane kind of girl... so this name stuck.) Mitch, Shane-O, Lorie, Buddy, Brian, Troy, Chad, Kevin, and so many others were involved, and I think the sales of CBs (and CB repairs) quadrupled in Canton within 6 months.

So, we get to the dream... Long story short, I walked out of my house one morning to find a CB on the roof of my car. It had a note instructing me to install the CB immediately. As soon as I did, I heard many of my old high school friends' voices. All of them had experienced the exact same thing: walked out of their homes that morning, saw a CB on their car, saw a note that instructed them to hook up their CB, hooked them up and began talking with friends they haven't seen in 10+ years. At first, it was great because we reminisced about old times and laughed about many of our escapades. But, then a deep voice (handle: Big Mama) appeared on the channel and started giving everyone instructions. And, if we didn't follow, Big Mama would shock us through our car seats. It became very frustrating to me because I had things I had to get accomplished that day. Besides, Big Mama never called me by the correct handle! But, I went along with it because I didn't want to get shocked. After many orders to do dumb things around town (example: lift the post office mailbox lid 5 times then shut it), we friends realized all of us were in Edwardsville together. So, we tried to use ten-codes to signal where we could meet up and figure out what was going on. Our friend Mitch was able to track the signals to the basement of the library where we finally found Big Mama on her CB. Let me introduce you to Big Mama:
Big Mama - in real life - is actually "Molly Brown." (She actually has TWO names.) And, Molly Brown is owned by a man who lives outside of Edwardsville who I tutor on the computer.

Yes, it was difficult - even in the dream - to understand why a tiny talking dog (a cute one, in fact) would try to control all of us or why she had such a low voice. And, we were trying to get to the bottom of it when alarms started ringing in the library. But, the alarm sound was actually my cell phone ringing. So, unfortunately, I woke up and was never able to get to the bottom of it.
I don't know what was more weird, the dream or having to confront Molly Brown last night at the tutoring session.

I always wanted a CB. We didn't use the one that came with the high top van, but sometimes mother would turn it on while we were on road trips, and you could hear the truckers talking.

Very funny dream!

It must run in the family. Your Dad has been waking me up the last three nights with dreams. We've looked for spiders, red lights and unknown items. Of course, I'm sleeping soundly and he has me turning on the light so he can see. The dreams means he is sleeping soundly with his c-pap machine (sleep apnea). Before he did not sleep very sound and would not get into a really deep sleep. Consequently, he was tired all the time and drowsy.

Mom, that's hilarious. I've been around Dad once when he was looking for bugs like that. Unfortunately (fortunately?), the dreams haven't stopped for me this week. Remind me to tell you about the one I had Tuesday night - when all of us were on a cruise ship and got sunburns.

I've often wondered if movie producer, Steven Spielberg, or author, Dean Koontz, got some of their craziest movie or book ideas from their dreams. Maybe they can pay you some big $$ for your wild dreams...
